Background

In the season of 1992-93 Night Owls was introduced as a means of gaining potential new members to the club and also as a form of revenue raising. The concept was formulated along the lines of a member’s experience at a country club many years before.

For the first ten years the running of the competition was carried out mainly by the original contributors. Since then other members of the Club have stepped in and continued running the competition very successfully making subtle changes that only served to make the competition more attractive. From humble beginnings in terms of competitor numbers, some thirty teams (120 players) each adopting a team name now actively vie for nightly honours. Long standing teams such as the ‘Lawn Beetles’ and the ‘Killerwatts’ could probably claim more than 25 years of continuous participation which gives an indication of the events popularity among social bowlers.

Night Owls run through the warmer months (October to March) on  Wednesday nights.
